Coiled Basket Using Yarns and Threads

This class is currently full, but a ‘Wait List’ has been activated on Eventbrite. Click Register Here below if you’d like to be added to the wait list. If someone is unable to attend you could be added to the list, and it will help us know if there is additional interest.

Description: This one day workshop explores the ancient technique of coiling. We will be working with yarns and threads from your “gatherings” (formerly known as your stash). The best choices would be cottons, wools and linens. You want threads and yarns that are strong and do not break easily. Novelty yarns and delicates need special consideration, maybe left for your second or third and fourth basket. Your supplies should include a ball or two of yarn of your choice, sports weight or thicker, a finer yarn maybe a crochet cotton, perl cotton, fingerweight yarn, or 6 stand embroidery floss. Play with your colour choices. This is a very fun class, lots of rooms for creativity and play. I love making baskets and hope you will too.

3D Wet Felting

Description: Wet felting is a fiber art technique that uses friction, soap and warm water to interlock wool fibers. The process involves laying out thin layers of wool fibers, wetting them with a soapy solution, and agitating them by rubbing, rolling, and pressing until the fibers bond together. Our morning project will be to try different ways to create flowers from wool roving. Decorative fibres, beads and yarn will make each bloom distinctive. In the afternoon, we will work on a small triangular container made over a resist. When finished, it could hold a small gift or be used as a sewing kit or change purse.

Felicia Lo

I’m the founder and creative director of SweetGeorgia Yarns and the School of SweetGeorgia. With a background in graphic design, web development, online education, and pharmaceutical sciences, I’m designing a creative life by blending crafts, colour, content, and education.

Since 2004, I’ve been writing about knitting, spinning, weaving, dyeing, and the fibre arts. I started SweetGeorgia Yarns, our hand-dyed yarn company, in 2005 at my dining room table with a few skeins of hand-dyed yarn on Etsy. And in 2017, I published my first book “Dyeing to Spin & Knit” and founded the School of SweetGeorgia — our online learning community for multicraftual makers everywhere.

St. Distaff Day/ROC Day

Date: Saturday, January 10th 2026
Time: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Location: East Lion’s Community Centre 1731 Churchill Ave, London ON

Fee: Members: $15 Non-members: $25

All wheel and spindle spinners are welcome to a day of fun and games.
Bring your lunch, your wheel/spindles and fibre that excites you.

In the 17th Century, lyric poet and cleric Robert Herrick wrote of the tradition in his poem, “St Distaff’s Day or the Morrow After Twelfth Night”:

Partly work and partly play
You must on St. Distaff’s Day:
From the plough soon free your team;
Then come home and fother them;
If the maids a-spinning go,
Burn the flax and fire the tow.
Bring in pails of water then,
Let the maids bewash the men.
Give St. Distaff all the right;
Then bid Christmas sport good night,
And next morrow every one
To his own vocation.

This was an excuse to play on the twelfth night as the next day , work begins again. The boys would try to burn the flax and tow while the maids tossed buckets of water on them. Delightful for January. Brrrr….

LDWS St Distaff Day will be much fun with games, prizes and lots of laughs. There will be time to socialize and try a few new things. It is a fund raiser for the guild.

LDWS workshops are open to all. If a participant is less than 18 years old, they are required to have a parent or guardian present at all times

December General Meeting

Stash & Side Hustle Sale!

Date: Saturday December 6th – 10:00-2:00 –
In large meeting room

We’re shaking things up for our December meeting with something a little different — a Stash and Side Hustle Sale!
The guild will be selling some surplus equipment to help tidy up our storage area, and members are invited to bring along their own stash or handmade items that don’t qualify for the Fibre Art Festival and Sale. It’s a great opportunity to clear out your craft space, share your creations, and maybe pick up a few treasures from others!

We’re also hoping to welcome a few outside vendors (details still being finalized), and to make the day even better, we’ll be including a potluck lunch — so bring something tasty to share.

There will be a short business meeting as part of the event.
