Coptic Book Binding

Learn the basics of how early (Coptic) bookbinding was done and how to construct a book. 

In this class we will learn how to measure and construct book covers, learn what paper to use for covers and interior pages, make signatures, and sew an open-spined binding to produce a beautiful little note book.

Cost: LDWS Members – $40, Non-Members – $55

Date: Sunday April 12, 2026 

Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Location: 1731 Churchill Ave, London ON – East Lion’s Community Centre

Instructor:  Darian Lajoie Paquette

Participant Requirements:  No experience necessary

Equipment to bring: 

  • sharp scissors
  • a pencil and eraser
  • a glue stick
  • large eyed tapestry needle

Material Cost:  Paper, covers, binding thread, and all other tools will be supplied by the teacher.  The kit fee for this class is $20

LDWS workshops are open to all. If a participant is less than 18 years old, they are required to have a parent or guardian present at all times.

The workshop is limited to 8 participants, please register early.

This class has a minimum number of 4 participants to proceed. If this number is not reached we’ll let you know about a week before the start of class. You will be refunded your full registration.

***Cancellation Policy: Participants who cancel their registration up to 1 month prior to the start of the workshop will receive a full refund.  A participant who finds a replacement for his/her spot within 1 month prior to the start of the workshop will receive a full refund.  Cancellations within 1 month of workshops (with no replacement found) and “no-shows” will not be refunded.  If the Guild cancels a workshop for any reason, all registration fees will be refunded.
