ONLINE RUG TWINING WORKSHOP – FEBRUARY 2021

Our first online rug twining workshop was very successful.  As a result, Dan Lajoie and the Guild are offering a second online twining workshop in February 2021.  Registration fee is $40.00 for members and $45.00 for non-members.

During the workshop, participants will learn how to plan a project (a rug or table runner) including planning for your projects’ size and design; warping a frame loom; preparing your weft materials and how to weave your project using two basic techniques (counter twining and same pitch twining).   By the end of four classes, participants will have a finished piece.

Dan has built specialized looms for this workshop.  The looms will be available for a $15.00 rental fee payable directly to Dan.   Registrants will use the looms for the duration of the workshop.  The looms will be available to purchase at the end of the event by anyone interested for $50.00 (minus the $15.00 rental fee already paid).  Warp will be provided with the loom.

Participants will also be required to provide their own weaving material (weft) and prepare their weft material in advance of the workshop.  Additional instructions about these required advanced preparations will be sent to participants once a completed registration form and full payment of the workshop registration fee has been received by the Guild.

Coiled Shawl Pin

Coiled Shawl Pin Workshop

When: Saturday February 29, 2020
Time: 9 am until 4 pm (one hour for lunch from 12 to 1 pm.)
At: Boyle Community Centre 530 Charlotte Ave., London Ontario
Workshop Leader: Nancy Latchford, Fibre Artist, London Ontario
Cost: $ 30.00 (LDWS members) and $35.00 (non-members) payable in advance via eTransfer to LDWSFinance@gmail.com or by cheque made payable to London District Weavers and Spinners and mailed to Donna Martin, 14 AMANDA Ave., Mt. Elgin Ontario N0J 1N0

Come out and enjoy this one day workshop led by Nancy Latchford, a London Fibre Artist and LDWS Guild member. Your shawl pin will be made from little bits of left over dyed yarns, hemp, linen and novelty threads. The cores vary from brass rings, paper, hemp, jute and wire. The pin or fastener is a small bamboo knitting needle. Other similar items could be used such as cut off chop sticks, hat pins, etc.

The pins and fastener could be embellished with beads, found objects, charms, and or paper. There are limitless possibilities on shape, size and decoration.

A basket making technique known as “Coiling” will be used to make this shawl pin. It is an ancient and simple technique to learn. The workshop leader will provide all materials. Participants are asked to bring an assortment of large eye needles and a pair of scissors for thread cutting. If participants wish to bring along some of their own threads, they should be cottons, linens, silk, and or wool. You will want a thread you can pull on and it will not break. Small amounts are fine as this project uses a lot of thread. In the kit (provided by the workshop leader) will be a metal ring, wire, linen core, dyed threads, needle, and the pin or fastener. The kit will be available on the day of the workshop and cost for the kit will be payable directly to the workshop leader ($6).

The class will be held at the Boyle Community Centre at 530 Charlotte Ave, London Ontario on Saturday February 29, 2020. Free parking is available on the street and at the Boyle Community Centre.

Coffee and tea will be available. Please bring a mug and your lunch with you.

Please complete the on line registration form and send payment as indicated above. Space is limited so don’t delay. Registration is now open and will close on February 14, 2020.

Ducette Workshops April 8, 2017

I wanted to thank you for the invitation to conduct 2 lucet braiding workshops this past Saturday.

I had a great time sharing what I have discovered and learning from each group -things like colour, texture and design combinations. There were a lot of smiles and projects completed in the morning (photos included). The hat started in afternoon session unfortunately will take extra time at home to finish. I am hoping that the participants will share a picture of their work when they are done- I’d love to see how they turn out.

I sincerely appreciate the support everyone has given me – guild members and show customers,  especially  by purchasing a ducette over the past few months. I hope that all will begin to explore and discover ways to use fibre in yet another interesting way.

Take care
Roxann Blazetich-Ozols
