Come out and enjoy this one day workshop led by Nancy Latchford, a London Fibre Artist and LDWS Guild member. Your shawl pin will be made from little bits of left over dyed yarns, hemp, linen and novelty threads. The cores vary from brass rings, paper, hemp, jute and wire. The pin or fastener is a small bamboo knitting needle. Other similar items could be used such as cut off chop sticks, hat pins, etc.

The pins and fastener could be embellished with beads, found objects, charms, and or paper. There are limitless possibilities on shape, size and decoration.

A basket making technique known as “Coiling” will be used to make this shawl pin. It is an ancient and simple technique to learn. The workshop leader will provide all materials. Participants are asked to bring an assortment of large eye needles and a pair of scissors for thread cutting. If participants wish to bring along some of their own threads, they should be cottons, linens, silk, and or wool. You will want a thread you can pull on and it will not break. Small amounts are fine as this project uses a lot of thread. In the kit (provided by the workshop leader) will be a metal ring, wire, linen core, dyed threads, needle, and the pin or fastener. The kit will be available on the day of the workshop and cost for the kit will be payable directly to the workshop leader ($6).

The class will be held at the Boyle Community Centre at 530 Charlotte Ave, London Ontario on Saturday February 29, 2020. Free parking is available on the street and at the Boyle Community Centre.

Coffee and tea will be available. Please bring a mug and your lunch with you.

Please complete the on line registration form and send payment as indicated above. Space is limited so don’t delay. Registration is now open and will close on February 14, 2020.
